of our academic community.DescriptionThe Michael C. Carlos Museum
("The Carlos") seeks an experienced professional to become its next
Associate Museum Director of Public Programs. The Carlos is Emory
University's museum of art and archaeology. It is a dynamic,
interdisciplinary center for the study of art and culture, with
collections from Africa; ancient Egypt, Nubia, and the Near East;
ancient Greece and Rome; the Indigenous Americas; and South Asia;
as well as American and European Works on Paper. It is part of
Emory University's Libraries and Museum ("EULM") which manages the
university's 14 libraries and the museum and is headed by the
Vice-Provost, EULM.The Associate Museum Director of Public Programs
("AMD-PP") is responsible for directing the public programs for the
Carlos Museum. Reporting to the Museum Director, the AMD-PP works
across the museum to develop an integrated program of exhibitions,
lectures, seminars, performances, and learning activities for
schools and adults. At the heart of the program is a three-year
rolling program for exhibitions, managed by the AMD-PP in close
consultation with museum and guest curators. The AMD-PP is
responsible for ensuring that programs are promoted in a timely
manner and that information on the website is up-to-date. The
AMD-PP oversees the work of the Public Program unit, assisted by a
program manager who is responsible for project management and
delivery, and has 4 direct reports.Within the framework of the
EULM, the AMD-PP will work closely with colleagues in the libraries
and Emory Center for Digital Scholarship ("ECDS") to develop and
deliver exhibitions, lectures, talks and collaborative projects.
The AMD-PP will also work closely with the EULM leadership team to
ensure that marketing, communications, programing are properly
coordinated and communicated.Preferred candidates will have
experience building affiliate groups (including but not limited to
donors and community advisory groups) and working with university
faculty, staff, and student affinity groups.Should be an
accomplished communicator, able to speak on behalf of the museum to
the public, students, the media, faculty peers and donors. Desire
someone who is a passionate advocate for social change committed to
building strategies for community outreach.KEY
