Bulk & Packing Supervisor - Chattanooga, TN Reports To: Bulk & Packing Superintendent Location: Chattanooga, TN Position Type: Exempt Level Position Summary The Bulk & Packing Supervisor is responsible for directing and overseeing operations performed by hourly production colleagues to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant production within the bulk and packing department. This role works closely with the Bulk & Packing Superintendent to lead shift operations, maintain process controls, and uphold company standards for safety, environmental compliance, quality, and housekeeping. Essential Job Responsibilities Leadership & Team Management Direct the operation of the bulk and packing department within established safety, environmental, and quality standards Provide clear direction, priorities, and resources to hourly teams; communicate performance updates to plant leadership Foster a culture of safety, teamwork, and inclusion; address employee concerns and maintain morale Mentor and coach team members, providing constructive feedback and recognizing strong performance Safety & Compliance Lead with safety-first mindset while ensuring compliance with all safety, food safety, and environmental regulations Conduct regular safety and housekeeping inspections; identify hazards and implement corrective actions Drive zero recordable and lost workday injuries through proactive engagement, training and aacountability Ensure adherence to GMP, HACCP, BRC, SOPs, and company policies Operational Excellence Monitor and improve process controls to maintain product integrity and quality standards Communicate shift performance, downtime issues, and root cause analysis results Collaborate with maintenance and technical teams to minimize downtime and ensure equipment reliability Identify and resolve process deviations; troubleshoot operational issues effectively Reporting & Documentation Complete required reports, including safety, quality, environmental events, production logs, permits, and safety engagements Keep the Bulk & Packing Superintendent informed of matters affecting morale, safety, and operational performance Training & Development Train employees on operational procedures, SOPs, safe work practices, PPE requirements, and company policies Support continuous improvement initiatives and readiness programs (Performance Excellence & A2E) Position Requirements Strong mechanical and technical knowledge of bulk processing, material handling, and mixing, packaging, palletizing, warehousing and shipping systems Hands-on experience operating all areas within the department including training employees and assigning and directing work Ability to plan work, appraise performance, recognize achievements, administer discipline and address employee concerns Ability to read, analyze, and interpret memos, technical procedures, or governmental regulations Ability to speak, read and write fluent English Ability to complete written reports and documentation accurately High School diploma or equivalent required; college or university degree preferred To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily Experience in flour milling, mixing, packaging and warehousing is preferred. Ability to apply mathematical concepts such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions Strong problem-solving skills, including collecting data and drawing valid conclusions Ability to interpret technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and manage multiple variables simultaneously Qualifications Previous experience in operations or supervisory roles within manufacturing or industrial environments Strong verbal and written communication skills Demonstrated ability to lead teams in a fast-paced, dynamic environment Knowledge of GMP, HACCP, BRC, and regulatory compliance standards Proven troubleshooting and continuous improvement capabilities Core Competencies Safety Leadership Team Development and Coaching Process Control & Quality Assurance Communication & Collaboration Continuous Improvement Mindset Proficient in MS Office Suite Working Conditions Ambient production environment; non-air-conditioned with hot or cold temperatures and exposure to seasonal elements indoors and outdoors Exposure to dust and odor Noise levels may reach or exceed 85 decibels; hearing protection required Company provided protective clothing including uniforms, hardhats, earplugs, safety glasses, hair restraints, steel-toed shoes, gloves, and safety harnesses as applicable Employees must wear all required PPE based on job and task requirements Roles requiring respirator use require employees to be clean-shaven Excited about this role but don’t think you meet every requirement listed?
